Pride and Prejudice (1995)

Just about every Jane Austen fan out there has, at some time or another, seen Andrew Davies' 1995 adaptation of Pride and Prejudice.

Jennifer Ehle, to begin with, is The Perfect Elizabeth Bennet. Witty, sparkling, attractive, and she has "fine eyes". :) I love the way she plays serious scenes--she switches from totally facetious to totally sober, and it's still believable. And she cries very well in the scene when she finds out about Lydia.

I love the way she delivers funny lines. She doesn't overdo it, nor does she underdo it. I can't really describe it, but I love it. "I am no longer surprised at you knowing only... six... accomplished women, Mr. Darcy. I rather wonder at you knowing any."

Colin Firth is perfect as Mr. Darcy! He is tall, dark and handsome.  Colin Firth was for me, the definitive Darcy. He just owned the role and he looks good in a wet shirt too! ;)

This is the first period drama I saw, aged eight and have I loved it ever since! Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy is perfect! Everything about this version of P and P is wonderful and it is lovely to watch anytime especially with a cup of tea and a bar of chocolate on a rainy day or when you are feeling unwell. Sit back and fall in love with Mr. Darcy!

I first watched Pride and Prejudice '95 in 1997 which was the second time it was aired on TV in England I was recovering from an operation so Pride and Prejudice '95 was a nice distraction, although I didn't fully understand the story at eight, we all love to escape with a lovely fairytale don't we? I love this version of Pride and Prejudice and the novel as well. :) xx
